Biography
BiJian Fan was born in Beijing, China.  He learned paper folding and cutting from his
grandmother.  Today, BiJian is still creating cutting-edge paper sculpture, but his
media have expanded to metal, wood, polymer, fiber, and other materials.

BiJian explores the aesthetic and physical properties of various materials, integrates
alternative sculptural techniques into his artistry, transforms 2D static material into 3D
kinetic sculptures.  His kinetic sculptures interact with surrounding environment,
energize the space, represent an evolution in space and time.

BiJian studied in China, Japan, and USA, earned his BS and MS in Mathematics,
Ph.D in Mechanical Engineering.  He continues to expand his knowledge in material
science and advance his spatial and temporal sense in sculpting.
By day, he is a
biotech engineer, but by night, he sculpts at home in Camarillo, California.

BiJian
has exhibited nationwide and earned numerous awards, he also exhibited in his
home town for Beijing Olympics.
