Origami Math Genius (OMG) is an inquiry based curriculum developed by BiJian Fan to integrate origami art and math in K-12 education. The goal is to turn every student into an OMG! Teaching math through origami has significant impact on spatial visualization, geometric reasoning and achievement.
OMG has been taught extensively in Ventura county, California. It also sparked interest in China. Fan traveled to China in 2015 and 2016, lectured on OMG at the Chinese Museum for Women and Children, Xi’an Jiaotong University, and other venues. He highlighted the mathematical concepts embedded in origami art and its educational benefit. Art education fosters creativity and innovation, it has been mandated by China’s Ministry of Education in 2015. Various art forms are being introduced into classrooms, more and more Chinese students are taking art lessons. More information on OMG can be found at http://www.bijian.com/omg.html. |
