“I want the wide American earth: an Asian Pacific American story” is a traveling exhibition created by Smithsonian Institution. The 21-city national tour stops at the Museum of Ventura County in California, June 18 - August 28, 2016. It includes the stories of local artist BiJian Fan and others.
“As a first generation immigrant from China, I struggled in finding my voice. I sought help in visual art, which transcended cultural barrier and allowed me to express freely.” BiJian reflected on his assimilation. “Visual art enriched my expression, serving public amplified my voice. As an American today, I felt right at home.” BiJian’s dragon sculpture and story are showcased in the Smithsonian exhibition. Animals in art have shaped our way of thinking, aesthetics, and language such as expressions and metaphors. The constant representation of animals in art has propelled them to be the real or unacknowledged “star” in our culture.

See details at http://ext.csuci.edu/documents/olli/flyers/mogao-caves-getty-6-16-16.pdf . The OLLI brings the excitement and stimulation of college learning to area seniors (50 or better!) who wish to extend their learning experiences in a university atmosphere. |
