Oxnard Public Library held an after-school class of Origami Math Genius (OMG) to 40 kids on October 12, 2015. OMG teaches mathematical concept and logic embedded in origami art. It engages kids with relevant tasks to acquire mathematical skill. OMG is visual, hands-on, and active learning. It develops cognitive function, spatial intelligence, and creative thinking. Next OMG class will be held at Colonial Branch library, 3:30pm on November 19, 2015.

More than half of California students (66%) don’t meet common core standards in Math. Various attempts have been made to improve math education, one of them is teaching math through origami art.
Origami Math Genius (OMG) is a curriculum developed for integrating art and math in K-12 education. It visualizes mathematical concepts through hands-on origami art. As illustrated in the above heart origami, each fold is a mathematical performance on fraction, arithmetic, and geometry. Teaching math through origami has been scientifically proved more effective than traditional teaching. OMG has been taught at schools, children Museums, and libraries internationally.
