STEAM integrates STEM and Art in education. To pump STEAM into classrooms, teachers in Southern California may take a STEAM workshop — Origami Math Genius (OMG). It is held at Gold Coast Science Network’s 11th Conference for STEM Education on February 27, 2016 at Oxnard College, California.
The conference is organized by Gold Coast Science Network and co-sponsored by Ventura County Office of Education, Oxnard College and California Science Teachers Association. Participants are eligible to receive 1 unit of professional development credit. The registration cost is $40. More information about the conference can be found at http://www.goldcoastscience.net/2016-conference.html. OMG is a STEAM curriculum developed for integrating origami art and math in K-12 education. OMG is an eTextbook. It provides folding instruction in videos, audios, and pop-over images. The interactivity makes the instruction intuitive to follow and fun to learn. BiJian will talk about OMG’s educational benefit and demonstrate the mathematical concepts embedded in origami. Learning math through origami has significant effect on math achievement. It also stimulates cognitive development and alleviates math anxiety. More information on OMG can be found at http://www.bijian.com/omg.html . |
