The shadow interacts with the sun, cloud, wind, and water dynamically, it varies constantly. It displaces transiently, which results in spatial and temporal variation. It appears and disappears periodically with the sun and momentarily with cloud. It distorts and blurs randomly with ripple (wind and water). Shadow’s deterministic and stochastic process visually represents the complexity of the Universe.
A floating knot is installed in a pool. The contemporary art has shifted its focus from the art object itself (knot) to a creative concept, in which the shadow is highlighted and brought into focus.

Origami can be used not only to fold a crane, but also to prove the Pythagorean Theorem in triangle geometry. Artist BiJian Fan demonstrated the mathematical proof in an Origami Math Genius (OMG) workshop at the Skirball Culture Center, Los Angeles.
The Skirball selected OMG as a professional development curriculum for its teacher program. It prepares teachers in Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) to integrate arts into their core curricula. OMG is a curriculum of origami math developed for integrating art and science in K-12 education. It is to turn every student into an OMG. BiJian taught an OMG workshop to 40 LAUSD teachers on October 18, 2014 at the Skirball, it ended with a collective art installation of origami flowers. More information on OMG can be found at http://www.bijian.com/omg.html. Artist BiJian Fan transforms 2D static material into a 3D kinetic sculpture, the spatial (2D to 3D) and temporal (static to kinetic) transformation represents an evolution in space and time. The aluminum bird sculpture responds to air movement and energizes the surrounding space, the motion brings the bird to life.
Artist BiJian Fan integrates technology and art. He incorporated sound responsive LED lights as eyes into his cat sculpture. They glow when a sound goes off. The alert cat can be used as night light. The interactive and functional art is accepted in “3D Defined - A sculpture Show 2014” at the Hillcrest Center for the Arts in Thousands Oaks, CA, October 10 - December 15, 2014. Thirteen local artists are selected by Ms. Connie Tunick and Janet Amiri, the curators of Arts Council of the Conejo Valley. An artist reception is on November 8, 4-6 pm.
