Long-term memory
A class of Origami Memory Gymnastics (OMG) debuts at Osher Lifelong Learning Institute of California State University Channel Islands in January 2016.  Enrollment information of upcoming courses can be found at http://ext.csuci.edu/community-ed/osher/osher-upcoming-courses-enrollment.htm.

OMG activates bi-hemispheric prefrontal cortex and improves memory and cognitive function through origami art.  It provides intuitive and easy-to-follow folding instruction logically and analytically.  The creative play, finger movement, and mental deliberation are brain gymnastics for improving memory.  In addition to creating origami art, OMG facilities discussion of scientific advance on dementia intervention and prevention.

Origami art has been used in clinical therapy for Alzheimer, autism, and other neurological conditions.  It has been advocated by neuroscientists to maintain brain fitness and make memories stick.

Channel Islands National Park commissioned local artist BiJian Fan to create artistic interpretation of islands wildlife.  14 outdoor sculptures of island animals were installed in the garden at visitor center on November 20, 2015.  The public artworks engage park visitors in preserving wildlife habitat.

Channel Islands National Park encompasses five islands off California coast, isolation over thousands of years has animals evolved into unique species found nowhere else on Earth.  Inspired by the evolution, BiJian sculpted the animals by transforming 2D static material into 3D kinetic sculpture, the spatial and temporal transformation represents an evolution in space and time.  The artworks can be viewed at  http://curvilinear.weebly.com/evolution.html.
