Channel Islands National Park commissioned local artist BiJian Fan to create artistic interpretation of islands wildlife. 14 outdoor sculptures of island animals were installed in the garden at visitor center on November 20, 2015. The public artworks engage park visitors in preserving wildlife habitat.
Channel Islands National Park encompasses five islands off California coast, isolation over thousands of years has animals evolved into unique species found nowhere else on Earth. Inspired by the evolution, BiJian sculpted the animals by transforming 2D static material into 3D kinetic sculpture, the spatial and temporal transformation represents an evolution in space and time.
