Whale Song, paper on water
City of Los Angeles published a calendar and cultural guide to celebrate Asian and Pacific Islander American Heritage Month in May. It showcased artist BiJian Fan and others, honored their contribution to American culture. Mayor Eric Garcetti commemorated the opening ceremony on May 8, 2015 at the city hall.
BiJian’s artwork, whale song, was selected for the publication. It integrated two seemingly incompatible media, paper and water, the dynamic shadow found its cultural origin in Buddhism’s doctrine - impermanence.
