National park engages public in preservation through art

Island Fox

Channel Islands National Park commissioned local artist BiJian Fan to create artistic representation of endemic animal species on the islands.  The artworks will be installed at the park’s visitor center to engage public in preserving the Channel Islands.

A maquette of island fox is an example of the artistic representation.  The island fox is a small fox that is native to six of the eight Channel Islands of California. There are six subspecies of the fox, each unique to the island it lives on, reflecting its evolutionary history.
