Test the Water
STEAM is a fast growing movement to integrate Art with Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education, STEM+Art=STEAM. A new course, Science and Art Integration, will be offered in 2015 winter term at CSU Channel Islands’ Extended University.
Artist BiJian Fan will lead a discussion of evolving relationship between science and art, art advanced by science, and science established based on art. An example of scientific art, Test the Water, is illustrated above. Thanks to material science, two seemingly incompatible media, paper and water, are combined to create a thought-provoking art of paper on water. It challenges conventional perception of paper visually and educates public about paper technology.
