Building an origami honeycomb
67% of California students didn’t meet the Common Core Math Standard. To improve math education, BiJian Fan introduced Origami Math Genius (OMG), an inquiry based curriculum to teachers at the Ventura County STEMposium ’16.
The 5-day summer institute for teachers was hosted by CSU Channel Islands in conjunction with University Preparation Charter School, June 27 - July 1, 2016 in Camarillo, California. BiJian opened the STEMposium with a keynote speech on OMG and highlighted its relevance to Common Core Math Standard. He also worked with the teachers to incorporate OMG into their classroom teaching.
Studies showed that teaching math through origami is more effective than traditional teaching. It has significant impact on spatial visualization, geometric reasoning and achievement. More information on OMG can be found at www.BiJian.com.
